This posts base was just done in creative (testing) but I have built it in the world in playing in (by my double trader, that happens to be in the desert) and overheating is def an issue. The main issue I'm having though is I've used all wood / iron bars for the roof, so there is really nowhere to hide when I overheat. And I do really like having the mini farm inside the walls as well. It just let's me micro-manage what I have going on with my forges / benches without being concerned for my base structures walls. I definitely like having the crafting area on the "main" shooting level. I suggest watching the video though, what i posted does assume you watch it (for wood ~3:20 to ~6:30) The hard part is the wood wedge tips, youll need a crafting table and wood saw to make them, then (on pc) hold r to access advanced orientation. IMO though, i suggest building 4 blocks higher, which just makes the stairway a little longer. connect the pillars, then build the stairs. on blocks 3, 16 and 21 put 5 more blocks on top, then a 6 block column next them. Ive numbered them left to right based on the image below, so orientation is up to you.

To start i would lay the length in wooden frames, so 1*27 line, then you can pick up blocks 1, 2, 4-15, 17-20. The 2 ramps on either side of the satiarway, one facing away from the stairs, the other facing into them, helps stream the zombies so they punch your bridge less. You can use extra frames to measure things out if you need to, the following is jawoodles suggestion as a minimum, with a minor upgrade. First build is starter friendly, just wood.
